McDermotts are committed to giving back to the local community wherever possible. St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, an inner-city school on Rocky Lane in Nechells had recently created a new garden in the corner of the playground. The garden was built by volunteers mainly for the purpose of ‘prayer and reflection’, to enable pupils to be able to have lessons outside throughout the year, weather permitting.

McDermotts offered to manufacture and donate a selection of new benches to the school for the pupils to be able to sit on in the playground and new garden area. The framework for the benches was made from steel, welded and constructed on-site by our in-house specialist team. They were then painted with an anti-rust finish. Finally, all the timber slats were cut and the benches were assembled and installed.

Alison Treadwell, Head Teacher at St Joseph’s said, “We are very grateful to McDermotts for constructing and donating the benches for our ‘Prayer and Reflection’ garden. We have had several visitors in school lately and they have said how beautiful it is and what a lovely quiet area it is for the children to work in.

“This work has made a real impact on our school and improved the learning environment for our pupils. It is also great to see a local company giving back to their community and contributing to local schools. We would not hesitate to contact McDermotts in the future, a company whom we would trust to complete any job for us to the highest standards”.
