Case Study - University of Birmingham School - Willmott Dixon

McDermotts undertook the groundworks and civil engineering projects for the new University of Birmingham School. An unexploded bomb expert was in attendance for all of our foundations works, including detailed floor slab insulation, reinforcement and tanking details.

This project involved a wide variety of cut and fill works, cart away, 6f2 mat, mass fill foundations, plastic and cast iron drainage, storm attenuation system, insulation/tanking, floor slab, upper floors, sheet piled wall & capping beam, sprinkler slab base, retaining wall, 278 works.

McDermotts added value to this project by changing to plastic drainage, and using re-cycled slab sub base stone to reduce the environmental impact.

Our Project Manager worked closely on the ground floor slab tanking detail and found the most cost-effective solution.

The on-site and management teams worked closely with Willmott Dixon to ensure works per visit were maximised, and to adhere to very precise quality requirements addresses through continued dialogue.

The client demands an extremely high quality of finish and we have received good feedback based on the works completed to date. We are delighted to have won new and upcoming projects for the client during these works and look forward to developing our relationship further.

Handover is expected in July 2015.
