Case Study - Ansty Aerospace Research Centre - Wates

McDermotts undertook the groundworks and civil engineering projects for the new Aerospace Research Centre next to the pioneering Manufacturing Technology Centre on Ansty Park, Coventry. The Centre forms part of the MTC’s research and development campus.

Location: Coventry

Sector: Aerospace research/Manufacturing

Project Value: £41m (£2m to McDermotts)

Date Commenced: October 2014

Duration: 2 Months

Service: Civil Engineering & Groundworks

This project involved a wide variety of cut and fill works, cart away, lime & cement stabilisation to building and external works, pile caps and ground beams, deep drainage and extensive storm attenuation system.

The project includes a new feature lake with 40m long foot bridge with in-situ abutments and viewing terrace, with concrete floors slabs on ground, 1st and 2nd floor, as well as linear drainage.

McDermotts added value to this project by dealing efficiently with the information flow and working closely with other on-site contractors.

Information on this project was released in stages and many large variations were carried out and adapted to meet new requirements.

The principal contractors have acknowledged our input on the design and we are currently working with Wates to deliver fast-track projects with several large variations which we have been able to resource immediately.

The new centre was formally handed over to the client in January 2015 and is set to provide a national facility for groundbreaking aerospace research in the heart of the UK.
